Chunkook Lee
Chunkook Lee (이천국), geboren 1995, absolvierte 2020 seinen Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture an der Chung-Ang University und schloss 2024 seinen Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture an der Hongik University ab.
2026 waren seine Arbeiten in den Gruppenausstellungen The Hunt for the Unicorn: Karkadann of Desire in Dubai, Zwischen Bäumen in der Villa Schöningen in Potsdam, Beautiful Collision in der Lee Eugean Gallery in Seoul und Intimacy of the Surface im space N.N. in München zu sehen.

Chunkook Lee transforms forms derived from nature and mythology into sculptures, exploring how ordinary objects acquire meaning and a sense of presence through ornamentation and context. By reinterpreting familiar natural forms as fantastical ornaments, the work examines how the ordinary can become extraordinary in an image-saturated world.
Rather than restoring mythological images to their original meanings, the artist uses ornament and fantasy to create new relationships between everyday nature and imagination. Small elements such as plants, fruits, and flowers become familiar yet surreal forms that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
The artist is particularly interested in how ornamentation transforms objects beyond their functional purpose, giving them a sense of value, mystery, and sacred presence. This exploration extends to the material process itself: digitally modeled and 3D-printed forms are refined by hand, allowing material qualities, gravity, and physical resistance to influence the final sculpture. By combining organic forms with materials such as glass and metal, the artist creates sculptural works in which contrasting textures and materialities coexist within ornamental structures.
